This is a traditional Persian delicacy with is specially made in the longest night of the year in the winter as Persians celebrate this night & one of the main ingredients they use in their food preparations for this special night, is pomegranate. Pomegranate meatballs are usually loved with everybody and I have not seen anyone to not to like it so you can prepare it for your guests and impress them with a whole new recipe & I am sure everybody is going to ask you how did you prepare this :)

Ingredients
  • 500 gram Mince Meat
  • 1/2 cup crushed/grated walnuts
  • 4 tbsp Pomegranate Pasteby it from any Persian grocery
  • 1 piece Oniongrated and take the juice away with you hand
  • 1 piece Chopped Onion
  • 1 tbsp chickpea flour
  • 1 tbsp fresh or dry chopped savory herb
  • 1 tbsp Tomato Paste
  • 1 cup fresh pomegranate juice
  • 1 tsp Turmeric Powder
  • 1 tsp Black Pepper Powder
  • Salt

Instructions
  1. In a big bowl, add the mince meat, crushed walnut & grated onion. Also add the savory herb, chickpeas flour, turmeric & black pepper powder, 1 tbsp of the pomegranate paste and salt. Using you hand knead & mix all the ingredients until everything is completely mixed. Cover the bowl & refrigerate if for half an hour.
  2. After half and hour, uncover the bowl & start forming smaller meatballs with your hand. You can put few fresh pomegranate seeds in the middle of each meatball if you like; this completely optional.
  3. Under the medium to high heat, in a frying pan add some oil and fry both sides of the meatballs and then keep them aside in the pan.
  4. Under the medium to high heat, heat the oil in a pot and fry the chopped onions until is half golden. Add the tomato paste and mix & fry for few more seconds. Add 1 cup of boiling water into it and stir. Add the fresh pomegranate juice into it as well. Add the rest of the pomegranate paste also. Add some salt to taste. Cover the pot and bring it to the boil.
  5. After boiling, place the meatballs into the pot inside the gravy and cover the pot again for half an hour until the meatballs are completely cooked and the gravy to be thickened. Do NOT reduce the flame.
  6. After half an hour, the meatballs are ready and the gravy has become thickened and remove it from the heat and Serve.
  7. To garnish it, add the meatballs into the serving plate, add the gravy into it and place some fresh pomegranate seeds over each meatball. Serve this dish with rice and enjoy.
